The Cambridge City Council, in the US state of Massachusetts, has submitted for approval a Policy Order calling on the US Government to end the economic blockade against Cuba.
Cambridge City is the 19th American city to discuss such a document. In total, 28 resolutions have been passed since 2016 that also include state legislatures and also cover cooperation with the medical and pharmaceutical sectors. The Policy Order promoted by the City Councillor Patricia Nolan is planned to be voted soon.
The Policy Order reaffirms that the full restoration of trade and travel between the two countries would be of great interest and benefit to both parties, in the areas of food production, economic opportunities, education, public health, tourism, arts, sports and biotechnological research.
She adds that Cambridge City would benefit from the restoration of trade with Cuba by allowing the export of agricultural and industrial products to the neighboring nation of 11 million inhabitants, as well as the importation of Cuban merchandise.
President Joe Biden promised during his election campaign to make substantial changes in US policy toward Cuba, and to reverse the measures that his predecessor, Donald Trump, implemented during his four years in power.
